What in the heck is CBD and is it the same thing as Hemp Oil?? Let’s break it down.
So many products labels are confusing on what you are actually getting. There are many out there labeled as cannabis sativa or hemp oil, so what does that actually mean…?? While both provide great health benefits they just perform in different ways, one is considered an active ingredient where as the other is an enhancer.
CBD Oil
CBD (Cannabidiol) is an active oil. CBD oil is made from cold pressing the leaves, flowers, and stalks of the hemp plant. These are the only parts of the plant where cannabidiol is found. Both CBD and Hemp oil provide it’s own specific nourishing factors to the skin. CBD provides so many health benefits for multiple areas of the body, providing relief from inflammation, pain, anxiety, depression, insomnia, the list goes on. CBD is unlike THC in that it provides the same powerful effect of the cannabis plant without the psychoactive effects, the “high” of THC.
Fun fact: CBD was first isolated in 1940 and then characterized structurally in 1963.
Hemp Oil
Hemp oil is nothing new, this oil has been incorporated into products for decades. Hemp oil is created by cold pressing the seeds of the hemp plant, it contains no cannabinoids. Another name for Hemp seed oil is cannabis sativa. It is considered more as an enhancing oil, that provides great moisturizing benefits due to it’s high fatty acid content. It is rich in omega-6 and omega-3, along with Vitamin E and other enhancing minerals.
